NBA Lockout Brings Fear to Fans

In all the years that I’ve followed sports, I don’t know that a more annoying happening has occurred than the current work stoppage in the NBA.  Almost a week into what would have been the 2011-2012 season, the league owners and the players union simply cannot find common grounds on a new collective bargaining agreement, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

One of the biggest talking points of the lockout is how Basketball Related Income (BRI) is to be split between the owners and the players.  The owners want a 50/50 split, which seems extremely fair, but the players are reportedly holding out for a 52/48 percent split in their favor.  To date, commissioner David Stern has cancelled all games up to November 30th.

I get that these percentage points are worth millions of dollars, but at some point these idiots have to realize that the league has just experienced one of the greatest seasons in its history, and is going nowhere but up.  If they don’t figure something out, and fast, we could be looking at one of the most embarrassing moments in league history.

I’m tired of hearing how “close” they are to completing a deal.  Seriously.  Wake me up when it’s all said and done.
